What are the best features of insoles for long-distance runners?
Asked 4 years ago
I was considering whether to purchase insoles as I prepare to run a marathon. I know I can just purchase orthotics over the counter or online however I do not know the difference between normal orthotics and running orthotics. What are some of the key features for running orthotics that I should look for?

I would suggest you look for a firm insole over soft cushioning ones. A firm one will help you maintain the normal gait pattern and make your heel strike to toe-off phase more efficient. During long-distance running, our body undergoes significant vascular changes and for that reason, a high-volume insole with shock absorbing feature is what you can go for. Also, keep an eye on the thickness of your socks.
