Can over-the-counter pain medication be effective in treating ankle sprains?

Asked 4 years ago

Hey, I sprained my ankle last weekend and I'm wondering if over-the-counter pain medication can help alleviate the pain and swelling. I don't want to go to the doctor just yet as I think it'll only be minor, so I'm hoping there's something I can do at home. Any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Over-the-counter pain medications can reduce pain from an ankle sprain. But visiting your physician before taking any of these medications is advisable. You can also try the RICE method. Rest your ankle, ice, compress, and elevate it.
