How long does it typically take to recover from bunion surgery?

Asked 4 years ago

Hello, I am wondering how long it typically takes to recover from bunion surgery and what I can expect during the healing process. I am a bit nervous about the surgery and want to be prepared for what's to come. Can anyone who has undergone bunion surgery share their experience with me or offer any advice? I appreciate any insight you can provide.

Your surgeon will advise you personally, however most people should be able to return to all normal activities of daily living, including driving and working, between 2-6 weeks after surgery. It may take 3-6 months to return to playing sports. In the days following your surgery you may want to take some pain relief as and when needed, and it is important to keep your dressings clean. Gentle stretches for your foot and ankle muscles can help improve your range of movement following the surgery.
