How do I know if a shoe is suitable for a specific type of terrain?

Asked 4 years ago

Hey, I'm looking to buy a new pair of shoes for trail running, but I'm not sure how to determine which shoes are suitable for specific types of terrain. For example, I'll be hiking on rocky trails, uneven surfaces, and maybe even some muddy areas. What should I look for in a shoe to ensure it will provide the appropriate support, traction, and durability for these conditions? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

For the types of terrains you’ve mentioned, a good running shoe should have the right mix of durability and stability, whilst feeling as lightweight as possible. Look for a shoe whose sole provides a good amount of grip and traction. The material of the shoe should feel durable and strong to protect your foot and ankle from hazards such as rocks, and to provide stability to reduce falls or trips. A good level of cushioning in the sole will increase comfort on uneven surfaces.
