Are there any genetic factors that can lead to plantar fasciitis?
Asked 4 years ago
Hi, I have been suffering from plantar fasciitis for a while now and I am wondering if there are any genetic factors that could have contributed to it. Both my mother and grandma have had this condition for large periods of their lives too. I am curious to know if there is a genetic predisposition to this condition. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Whilst a lot of lifestyle factors can trigger plantar fasciitis, there are a few genetic factors which can also increase your risk of developing this condition. These include having low arches and flat feet, as well as having tight calf muscles. Obesity and being overweight can also lead to plantar fasciitis by putting extra strain on the foot and heel. A healthy diet, plus regular exercise and stretching, can help to minimize these factors.
